TOUCH RUGBY - Movement Patterns
Before you start running double switches up the blind side,
you need to nail the basic individual skills. This is a mistake that a lot
of beginner coaches make i.e. wanting to run before they can walk.
So what are the basic skills?
INDIVIDUAL SKILLS
Catch
Score - Seriously...How many times have you practiced diving at the line?
Rollball
Tapoff
Taking a penalty
Spiral Pass
Flick Pass
Reverse Pass
Miss Pass
Running dump
How many times do you think you need to practice these skills before you
become proficient?? Have a think about it before you read ahead....
It'd not as much as you might think - It's around 50 times...
Once the basic Individual Skills above have been nailed, it's time to move onto
the sub-unit skills. These are skills involving more than one person.
SUB-UNIT SKILLS
Wrap
Switch
Double Switch
Sweeper plays
etc
So where are all the 'killer moves'? Well it turns out that the 'killer moves'
are merely the COMBINATION of all the above patterns. Think of it like
musical notes - There are only a handful of notes but they can be combined
into infinite combinations - It's the same principle here.
The big secret the top teams don't want you to know is that
it's just perfecting these basics under pressure again and
again and training SPECIFICALLY the energy systems
required for the game.
When I get a chance I'll finish this section with some TEAM SKILLS...
In the meanwhile - Enjoy your Touch!!
